Torbjørn Aasen Trygve Trædal Karina Bull-Gjertsen – Ti for To When a jazz loving pianist, composer and arranger writes music for two Grand Pianos for two of Norway’s finest pianists, the result becomes a cross-over production that makes you want to tap your feet together with the music. Torbjørn Aasen has an extensive carreer as a jazz pianist, but is educated within the classical world of music. His fascination for jazz has colored this recording both according to melody and in the way he’s composing for two pianos. The music lies somewhere between classical and jazz music. This is the kind of cross-over-recording you’ll find in the homeland of jazz – USA, but rarely found in Norway. A difficult form, but played by concert pianists like Trygve Trædal and Karina Bull-Gjertsen it brings us a playful and beautiful result. Trygve Trædal and Torbjørn Aasen has been colleagues for over 30 years at Agder Music Concervatory, where they’ve been teaching ear-training and classical piano. Trædal is one of our finest classical pianists; has been touring inside and outside of Norway and recorded some fine classical CD’s Karina Bull-Gjertsen, originally from Russia, but took her master degree on classical piano at Agder Music Concervatory. The albumet contains styles from ragtime and blues to Standard-tunes; everything written with Aasen’s own personal touch. His main focus has always been – using Duke Ellington’s own words: ”It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing”. We are really looking forward to October 12th when the record is here!!!! |
