DRUMMER TOM OLSTAD WILL 25. OCTOBER RELEASE HIS FIRST RECORD UNDER HIS OWN NAME.
ABOUT TIME WE THINK!!
The album is a celebration of the legendary bassist and composer Charles Mingus.
Tom Olstad, a veteran on the Norwegian jazz scene, has brought his regular quintet Changes into the studio, and added singer Karin Krog on two tunes.
The musicians: Tom Olstad - drums, Roy Nikolaisen – trumpet, flugelhorn, Nils Jansen – tenor saxophone, Rune Klakegg – piano, Kåre Garnes – bass. Changes has existed for almost ten years with this line-up, all the musicians being established names on the Norwegian jazz scene.
Guest singer Karin Krog probably needs no further presentation. She is an artist of high international distinction, and one of the finest interpreters of jazz today.
All the music on the album is taken from the rich repertory of the American bassist and composer Charles Mingus (1922 – 1979).
On this record the emphasis is particularly on Mingus’ music from the 1970’s, but some of the compositions also date back to the 1950’s. Some of the song titles reflect Mingus own harsh comments of political incidents in the 1950’s and 60’s US, especially concerning racial prejudice.
All of this is interpreted on the CD by musicians who all are among the best storytellers we have.
